Callum Bradley McLeod - Birth Day Story

5:00 AM Maren tells Brad that she is having more regular contractions, but they aren’t long enough yet to call the doctor. Brad goes back to sleep.

7:45 AM Maren’s water breaks. Brad is closing the door going out of the house to go to work, and Maren yells for him to come back.

9:00 AM Painter (Guy Ouellette) shows up to paint the house, as Brad tells him they are leaving to go to the hospital. The painter smiles and congratulates us as we head out. The day is clear and sunny, with the temperature just at freezing. Brad enjoyed putting on his sunglasses for the drive.

10:00 AM Maren gets checked in and goes straight to her room, as the nurses can see that she is the “real deal.” She starts having hard labor pains shortly thereafter and moves very quickly. We were grateful to have a fresh nurse, Debbie Fischer, who stayed with us for our entire day and made everything much more pleasant with all of her help.

11:45 AM Maren gets her epidural and feels much better.

4:00 PM The staff is surprised that Maren is ready to push! Maren is grateful that this comes with short breaks every few minutes.

5:27 PM Callum Bradley McLeod makes his entrance into the world! Brad is grateful that he does not get lightheaded or pass out and is able to help Maren through the whole day. Maren and Brad can't remember anything for a couple of hours after Callum arrives other than him. Mom and Dad enjoy a couple of hours of pure joy as they get to know Callum.

7:30 PM The team moves to a recovery room for the next few days.

March 4 After much discussion about bilirubin and some sunbathing, the McLeod family heads home!
